New Gerbils…a few questions?

We have two female and one male gerbil. I noticed that the male has scabs on his back. I noticed this the day after we bought him, my kids love him and we want to keep him.
would a sand bath help?
They are currently housed in a 3 story cage but I am almost done building a cage topper for our 20 gallon aquarium.
I used 1/2″ mesh wire hardware cloth for the cage and mostly aspen (but one pine yard stick as well) for the structure – I wrapped the hardware cloth around the wood to help prevent chewing.

You need to be careful with what you use as their bedding/flooring.
I have “Carefresh Pet Bedding” and it works wonderfully! It does not irratate Isabella’s (my gerbil) nose or anything as some other beddings do.
I would not use anything not designed for a gerbil!! I’m not sure how you are thinking a cookie sheet or cement would work but just use bedding.
So how do you have a three story cage?
oh and the scabs on the male’s back could be from fighting. watch your gerbils closely and see if they fight or are aggressive towards each other. or maybe he is rubbing up against the bars
and a sand bath could help, try it. but if he has the scabs on for much longer, ask a vet. Isabella has a red nose with some fur lost around it but she is perfectly fine.
just watch them closely.
and the next time your at a pet store, ask somebody.
